Foley Square

  • Client General Services Administration / Location NYC, NY / Design LSCO, DG2

The Federal Office for over a century, houses federal agencies, office, retail, and museum space. The architecturally inspired signage announces main entrances to the building and flanks interior corridors. The striped motif on signs – which parallels the inlaid floor and skylight patterns – is created by shifting the directionality of the brushed bronze, accentuated when natural light washes the metal surface. This was one of the first programs where a government agency adopted signage ADA standards, serving as benchmark for specifications and compliance.
