Shaping the Legacy of a Union.

Created as a permanent installation at the United Federation of Teachers headquarters in New York City, the exhibit begins in the main lobby with the broader story of the UFT—its history, mission, and role in shaping teachers’ rights and public education. The experience continues on the second level with a more focused exploration of Albert Shanker’s legacy, bringing together historical artifacts, archival material, and video to tell a layered story of leadership, advocacy, and social change.

A series of articulated, zig-zag exhibit modules transforms the second-floor hallway into a sequence of experiences, establishing rhythm, pacing, and distinct areas for storytelling. Developed through an extensive collaborative process of research, curation, editing, design, and fabrication, the installation transforms institutional history into a spatial narrative—preserving the past while making its ideas accessible to future generations.
